Identity/ Context Map

Understanding Youth: Adolescent Development for Education
                                        4 Main Identities

Achieved Identity: An individual is highly committed to an identity identity crisis resolved.
Foreclosed Identity: An individual has committed to a certain way of being without exploring that way of being of trying different alternatives
Moratorium: An individual explores different identities but does not make a commitment too one
Diffused Identity: Little to none exploration of an identity therefore there is no commitment

Throughout this chapter we are introduced to Julian, a Haitian boy who is struggling with his identity. Mitch, the school psychologist first begins this experiment of helping Julian reach "achieved identity" by asking him to make of list of things different relationships that he deals with on a day to day basis. Then Julian has to explain what these relationships are expecting of him. Then he was asked to write his own feelings about these relationships in his life. Mitch had Julian make a context map. A context map is used to help one identify their strongest relationships in their lives. For Julian the context map was used more to help him gather who he is and what is important to him in his life.

MY OWN CONTEXT MAP

  1. I like the way you defined the four identities. Your context map is amazing. I like how you added a fifth identity. If you do not mind me asking, how did you go about creating it? Did you use Microsoft or another system? Good job!

  2. I liked how you wrote that a context map can be used for two things and not just one. Your context map is well done and I like how you also added a 5th part to it. Good luck in your writing.

  3. I really like how you added your personal interests in your context map as well. I, unfortunately did not think of this! It is awesome to see how different everybody's context maps are, to see what everyone is focused on in their lives. Yours is different than the ones that I have seen but definitely much more creative!

  4. As everyone above has mentioned, adding the fifth category to your map was cool. I like how you didn't just list writing under another category but gave it it's own. I like how you then built on it by explaining how writing is a multi-purposed aspect of your life. It speaks to who you are and how you think about yourself.

  5. I really enjoy your context map! Looks great! I had so much trouble creating mine! I really like all the parts you included in your map and I'm kind of jealous I didn't create mine like this!
